Madeleine, an Australian, and Rahul, a Malaysian, met in Kuala Lumpur during an internship at the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Both were reading law at the Australian National University in Canberra but, amazingly, had never met on campus during those four years. After a courtship amid the skyscrapers of the Malaysian capital, love bloomed like sunshine after a long monsoon.
We styled their wedding around the tropical city of Kuala Lumpur. With a color palette of jungle green, white, black and gold, we paired tropical palm and monsterra leaves with vibrant white anthuriums, orchids, roses and Australian wild flowers. We embedded rings into the design to symbolize eternal love and embellished various accessories with generous lengths of ribbons in gold, black and green. These elements were carried from morning church vows through to dinner and dancing, where floral arrangements were hung overhead and set high on floral stands, reminiscent of a jungle canopy. Our design captured the lushness of a tropical rainforest framed by the reflective gold of an ultra-modern metropolis. The floor-to-ceiling windows of the Berjaya Times Square Hotel ballroom, the wedding reception venue, offered guests an absolutely stunning view of the Kuala Lumpur skyline at night.
