Flowers for McLaren

19 September, 2015 by Rose Kuruvilla

It has been a while since I last posted up a blog with an exciting update on what I have been up to. What better way to restart with telling you about our latest event with DMR Group for a McLaren Event. I was asked by Shawn Lourdasamy of DMR Group to decorate McLaren Applied Technologies’ Round Table Forum. I was asked to give the round table forum a softer look and to keep the decor clean and elegant. I was also requested to use only red flowers to compliment pristine white furniture.

After giving thought to the brief, I suggested using red roses in traditional minimalistic designs and to do away with foliage to keep the designs clean.

Here our some photos of the event:

I put together red roses in round posies as centerpieces on the coffee tables arranged in a U shape depicting a round table with a touch of colour.

For the cocktail tables and reception table – I placed a single red rose on top of a bed of white pebbles in a glass vase. a few rose petals were scattered around the base of the vase for effect.

I also came up with a design for the coffee and tea table using coffee beans and polyscias tea leaf.

To add a little variety to the red floral decor, I put together a red ginger arrangement in a tall vase.

Thank you Shawn for thinking of me and giving me this opportunity to decorate such a prestige event. I am humbled and honoured to be part of your team.

A big thank you to Anand and Kamini for assisting me with the arrangements and setup. Having the support meant a great deal to me.

To my amazing flower guru, Christina Quek of Yamano Florist & Ikebana School – thank you for guiding me with the designs and order.

To my very supportive husband, thank you for always inspiring me especially when working on projects, supporting me and always having a quick solution to everything. I am blessed and forever grateful.

Ku De Ta – simply inspiring!

31 May, 2013 by Rose Kuruvilla

My father came to visit and I decided to give him a taste of Singapore that I love. I took him to my all time favourite place in Singapore – Ku De Ta at Marina Bay Sands. Ku De Ta at Marina Bay Sands is well known for its 360-degree panoramic view of the City’s skyline and Straits of Singapore.

Whilst the view is simply breathtaking, I really love this place more for its famed cocktails designed by Ku De Ta’s own team of mixologist. You’ll never see names like Cosmopolitan or a Mojito on the menu. Instead you get names like Blushing Baby, Tony Stark’s Pepper and Lady Be Mine. I love their inventions and the witty names they come up with. Unlike many other cocktail bars, the cocktails are not diluted or weak. The strength is just right. If you visit Ku De Ta often, you’ll find the cocktail menu changes. They once had a cocktail called ‘Mini Me’ (a drink  inspired by Austin Powers) and it featured a lychee fruit in a shot glass half filled with lychee liquer! How adorable!

These cocktail concepts inspire me to create a signature style in everything I do. In styling events, my style is to lead not follow, invent not copy, and inspire not imitate. It is ok to be inspired by amazing things people come up with, but find your own style in that inspiration and create something out of it. As John Cage said ‘I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.’

So readers, as it’s Friday and the weekend is just a day away – dream a little and have a great weekend.
